Questions fréquentes
- What is scientific notation?
- A number written as a coefficient between 1 and 10 times a power of ten, e.g. 4,500 = 4.5 × 10³. It makes very large and very small numbers compact.
- How is engineering notation different?
- Engineering notation restricts the exponent to multiples of three (10³, 10⁶, 10⁻³…), so it lines up with SI prefixes like kilo, mega, and milli.
- What do significant figures control?
- They set how many digits of the coefficient are kept. Choosing fewer significant figures rounds the coefficient accordingly.
- Is the value I convert transmitted anywhere?
- No. The conversion is arithmetic done in your browser; the number you enter never leaves the page.
