- Why isn't MPG to L/100km a simple multiply?
- Because they are inverse measures: MPG is distance per fuel, L/100km is fuel per distance. The relationship is L/100km = 235.215 ÷ MPG (US), so doubling MPG halves L/100km.
- What are the conversion constants?
- L/100km = 235.215 ÷ MPG(US) and = 282.481 ÷ MPG(UK). The two MPG figures differ because a US gallon is 3.785 L while an Imperial gallon is 4.546 L.
- How does km/L fit in?
- km/L is distance per fuel like MPG, so L/100km = 100 ÷ (km/L). 10 km/L equals 10 L/100km; 20 km/L equals 5 L/100km.
