JPEG and PNG images are embedded directly into the PDF with pdf-lib, preserving their original pixel data with no recompression. WebP, which pdf-lib cannot embed natively, is first decoded onto an HTML canvas and re-encoded as a high-quality JPEG (quality 0.92) before being placed in the document — so WebP pages go through one lossy step, while JPG and PNG pages do not.
Each page is sized to match its image's pixel dimensions, and the image is drawn to fill that page edge to edge. This means there are no forced white margins and no fixed paper size like A4 imposed on the output — the PDF's page geometry follows your images. Practically, a set of photos becomes a tidy multi-page PDF where every page is exactly as wide and tall as the photo it holds.
The typical use is converting phone photos or scans of receipts, ID documents, whiteboards, or handwritten notes into a single shareable PDF, or assembling a quick image-based portfolio or proof sheet. A couple of things to keep in mind: page order follows the order the files are added, so arrange them before converting; very large or very high-resolution images produce correspondingly large pages and a heavier file, since the originals are embedded rather than downscaled; and because pages are sized in pixels, mixing portrait and landscape photos will produce pages of different shapes. If you need uniform paper sizing or print margins, a layout-oriented tool is a better fit.
