About Rotate PDF

Rotating a PDF changes the orientation in which its pages are displayed and printed. This tool rotates every page in the document by the angle you choose — 90° clockwise, 180°, or 90° counter-clockwise (270°) — using pdf-lib. Importantly, the rotation is a metadata change: each page carries a rotation attribute that viewers honor when rendering, and the tool simply updates that value. The page content itself is not redrawn or re-rasterized, so text stays selectable and image quality is untouched.

The rotation is additive, applied on top of any rotation a page already has. If a page is already turned 90° and you apply another 90°, the result is 180°. The new angle is normalized within a full turn, so applying 270° three times brings a page back to where it started. This matters when a document already mixes orientations from scanning or earlier edits — the chosen angle shifts each page relative to its current state, not relative to an absolute zero.

The most common reason to rotate is fixing pages that were scanned sideways or upside down, or reorienting a landscape spreadsheet, slide, or diagram so it reads correctly on screen and prints the right way up. Because the tool applies one angle to the whole file, it's ideal when every page needs the same correction. The trade-off is that it can't rotate individual pages by different amounts in one operation — if a document has pages tilted in different directions, you'd need a page-level organizer tool to handle them separately. The fix is also non-destructive: the underlying content is unchanged, so re-rotating later restores or readjusts the orientation cleanly.
